Get into any site that may be blocked - Just have access to My Computer

In this instructable I use a random webpage - yes.google.com to access instructables.com when it is blocked. This is possible because of domain remapping.

This idea is also in the instructable here . 

Step 1What You Need

A Windows PC (sorry Mac and Linux users)
Access to the system 32 folder located at C:\WINDOWS\system32(If you can get into My Computer and Type that in the address bar - it will work!)
An Internet Connection
A Browser - All Windows computers come with IE but Firefox is Far Superior

If you have all of that move to step 2!

Step 2Lets get into CMD!

If you can access start - run skip this paragraph (not step)! Ok so you can't select start then run? Go into notepad and type "command.com" (without the quote marks). Then go to save as and change the file type to all types. One you have picked a place to save the file call it "cmd.bat" (without the quote marks). Run this file - you are now into cmd. 

People who just opened CMD the long way - skip this paragraph (not step)! Goto start, run and then type cmd into the box and press OK. If cmd says it is disabled - do the above (Paragraph 1). 

Ok, so you've got cmd open now... Go to step 3! 

Step 3Pinging your site

To ping a site type in "ping (YOUR SITE HERE)" - replacing the (YOUR SITE HERE) with a url and removing the quotes. Then press enter. e.g. ping instructables.com 

Write down the IP address - we will need it later

Step 4Finding the hosts file.

Go into my computer and in the address bar type C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc . Replace C: with the hard drive that you use.

A comment from aneel persuaded me to add this:On unix-style machines (including Linux and Mac OS X), the hosts file is /etc/hosts. You'll likely have to be an administrator to edit it. Try this in terminal on the Mac:
sudo open /etc/hosts
And this in a terminal on the Linux box:
sudo emacs /etc/hosts
or
sudo vi /etc/hosts


In the menu bar click on tools, folder options. Navigate to the view tab and click on the show hidden files and folders. click apply and then OK.

Doble click on "Hosts".
Select Notepad to open the file with.
At the bottom under the local host type the IP Address you wrote down earlier. Make sure that you include the dots in the number. Then put a space then type the fake domain name; I found out that if it has google in it blocking systems are less likely to block it. I made mine yes.google.com

An example of what to type to redirect yes.google.com to instructables.com: 72.249.66.26 

Step 5 FINISHED :

Save the hosts file - not save as! Then go into a new browser window and try to get to yes.google.com (or whatever you chose). 

This is very useful for if you need to access a blocked site at your school or work and have access to my computer!

Step 6 Added Bonus to block sites! 

Instead of adding the special IP to the Hosts file you can add the IP of 0.0.0.0 and a site which you hate to block the site. When you go to it it will either redirect to a search engine or go to a page which says that the page cannot be displayed.

eg. 0.0.0.0 porn.com^{Means that if I go to porn.com... which I wouldn't be - I'm only 13 - it will block it so I will not be able to get to it.}

This is a simple way of blocking sites from your children or anyone who doesn't have a basic knowledge of the internet (or as i like to call it - The World Wide Web!)
